If you are looking for the perfect Valentines day scavenger hunt for your loved one whether it be a child, friend, coworker or partner - You have come to the right place!
I am so excited to start this page today. As you already know I love scavenger hunts and I love creating them for the people I love the most in the world.
We will go step by step and cover these areas to make your scavenger hunt the most epic game yet!
First, I would start with a checklist. The one pictured here is a great list that I use to create my hunts. Here are the questions you can add to yours as well.
You will find great ideas for creating a Valentines day scavenger hunt for your children, your classroom, your friends, your coworkers, or your partner here. |
Your hunt will be so different if it were made for a child, or made for a family member or made for your lover. This is the first thing we will need to decide on. Maybe you want to make multiple hunts and that is perfect as well. Go through the scavenger hunt check list on each one.
The second thing I always work on is where I want the scavenger hunt to be. We can't make any Valentine's scavenger hunt clues until we decide where we want the hunt to take place!
Some great options for children are inside or outside your home, a park, inside of a classroom, a church, or an area that you and your family go to often like a trampoline park if you can set up the clues in advance.
For adults you can also use these same areas but you can make the hunt more advanced and have them go from place to place since they can drive. For example, it can start with a note to your loved one that sends them to their favorite restaurant where you meet them for lunch.
Would you like to make your Valentines Day scavenger hunt more personal for the person you love. Picking special areas that mean something to them or to you both is a great way to make your Valentines day scavenger hunt more personal.
Think about what things you love to do together. Do you love to cook together or eat together? Do you have some where you both sit to watch movies? Where do you play games together? What are their favorite things to do? Do they love to draw? Do they love showers or bath?
When picking areas that are super important to them it lets them know you pay attention to the things they love and will make them feel important to you. When you pick areas that are special to you both you are telling them your time together is special and important to you as well.
You can also use these areas to create your clues and remind them of why each area is special and what memories have been created there and how much you have cherished those memories.
So, now let's focus on how many clues you would like your hunt to be. I usually focus my hunts on 8-12 clues. I find that this makes it challenging enough but doesn't last longer than someone would want.
If you are making more advance scavenger hunt clues like riddles with puzzles you might want to keep the clues on the lower end as each clue will take longer time to solve.
Also, if you are sending them to multiple locations throughout a city, then I might limit the number of clues even lower.
You also could create the number of clues related to a specific number that means something to you both. For example, you met them on the 11th of the month then create 11 clues. Or if there birthday is on the 7th you can create 7 clues. Or maybe they have a favorite number that you can use!
Use every aspect of your scavenger hunt to be made personal about them.
What kind of hunt would you like to create? I will go into short detail here of the different types of hunts that I think would be perfect depending on the age of the person you are making the hunt for and your goal of the hunt.
A Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt List
Valentine's Scavenger Hunt List is great if you are wanting to do a hunt as a family or as a couple. You can list all kinds of Valentine's items for you to find while you travel around town or where ever you are going.
You can see the list I had created that I have included in my Valentine game bundle on my Etsy shop.
Some things you can add to a Valentines day scavenger hunt list would be...
A Valentines Day Picture Scavenger Hunt
A Valentines day picture scavenger hunt is just an extended version of a scavenger hunt list.
I think this type of hunt is a perfect scavenger hunts for schools or keeping your child entertained at home
To make a picture hunt you just add the pictures beside each object on the list. Then you take each picture that you have created and add that to a different page that you can cut out and hang all around a classroom, home or where ever you would like.
Having a picture scavenger hunt allows you to have a hunt anywhere even if the seasonal items may not be present in the area you are in. All you do is place the pictures around your designated area such as a classroom and have the kids hunt for the pictures and mark it off of the list.
Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt Riddles
There are two different types of riddles to choose from here.
One is rhyming riddles and the other one is just riddles that do not necessarily rhyme that can make someone really have to think to solve them
I love to rhyme everything that I do when I make mine. An example of one of my Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt indoor clues is
Roses are red. Violets are blue. The next clue can be found where you shampoo. So this would lead someone to the shower or bath.
Riddle hunts are great for people of all ages. Who doesn't love a good riddle!! But if you have the super smart tween, teen or adult you may want to use some advance scavenger hunt clues.
Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt Puzzles
This is my all time favorite type of hunt to create. Decoding secret letters is such a treat. These can be used on older children to adults.
I originally made these for my daughter as she got older to try to entertain her. Then I had my son who was eight at the time with his friend do one and they loved it as well.
I have also had a lot of reviews telling me how their older children or adult children have absolutely loved the adventure that this type of hunt can bring.
To make these type of scavenger hunt puzzles you can use a variety of options like a crosswords, word search, braille, Morse code, picture codes, mazes, templar cipher, secret math clues, mirror images etc. If you want to learn more about different secret coding options visit my page by clicking here.
I definitely recommend this type of scavenger hunt especially for anyone above the age of ten. Tweens, teens and adults alike have a lot of fun doing these types of hunts.
Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt Puzzles and Riddles
For the super advance expert at riddles and secret codes, I love combining riddles or letters with secret coded clues.
You can see in the picture above that it is not a simple coded clue but a more complex clue. Each part is a part of a love letter broken down into 10 parts.
After they solve the love letter on each page, they then will have to unscramble the letters I have underlined to find where the next clue is.
I made this hunt thinking about a scavenger hunt proposal. I found the best love quotes I could on the internet and combined them into the most perfect letter. If you want to learn more about my tips on a scavenger hunt proposal click here.
This would be the type of hunt I would want someone to make for me. So, if your partner really likes games, puzzles, secret messages or games this might be the type of Valentines day scavenger hunt for you!
If you are on this page I would assume you would want your scavenger hunt to be about Valentine's! But still there are other factors to consider when creating that perfect design for the one you love.
First, let's consider who you are making this Valentines day scavenger hunt for. If you are making your hunt for a child, a coworker, a friend or a lover the graphics and colors will change.
When I am creating hunts for my children, friends or coworkers for Valentine's day I use the color pink for the main color and incorporate blues, purples, yellows and even greens. My graphics are usually playful and fun and colorful. The picture of cupid would be a great Valentine's graphic to use. Most of the colors I use are usually on the light end of the color spectrum. The background picture I incorporated here would also be a great picture to prepare a scavenger hunt border while making the clues.
If you are creating a scavenger hunt for your lover first decide what type of tone you want to set. Is this playful or fun or do you want it to be a little spicy. I would add reds and even black to any scavenger hunt I am making for a my partner. My graphics are going to change based on the mood and tone I am trying to set. I love adding a personalized letter to my treasure hunts. On Valentine's day it would be even more expected to receive a letter, card or Valentine.
Write a letter to your loved one to tell them how much you love them and introduce them to treasure hunt they are about to embark on!
You can also make your letter from Cupid to give it a cute little spin.
The first scavenger hunt I ever created was on paper that I bought at a craft store. I wrote riddles on the paper and sent my daughter to different areas inside and outside of our home.
Now, I make all my scavenger hunts in Canva. Canva is free to use. There are advance options that you can also purchase but you do not need to do so unless you are creating all of the time like I am. I have found Canva to be very simple to use and extremely user friendly.
I love Canva because it allows me to add that personal touch to my scavenger hunts by adding great backgrounds and cute graphics. I also love the clean fresh look it provides instead of me trying to write things outs as I have in the past.
Also, you might like to know that I am not an affiliate of Canva. I just use it and love it personally and want to offer you the best tools I can to help you.
You can easily make these at home as well! Your personal handwriting would give your Valentines day scavenger hunt an even more extra special touch that they can keep and cherish for years to come.
You can buy decorative paper with the perfect theme you are looking for, or get Valentine's Day cards and write notes in each one.
Have you decided who you are creating your hunt for? If you are creating this hunt for your lover then you are going to need a very different tone then for your children or friends.
Setting the tone for your lover
If you are setting your scavenger hunt up for your lover, there are things you can add to make your hunt more loving, romantic and enjoyable for them.
If you are setting your scavenger hunt up for you children, friends or co-workers. You might want to add
The only thing left on the list I made at the top is to make a official list of all the areas that you will hide your clues in and what gift you want to give your loved one.
To save you precious time to spend with your loved ones. I have many premade scavenger hunts that are available in my store. They are beautifully designed, come with a love letter, have easy to hide instructions and make planning a Valentine's scavenger hunt super easy.
They are a variety of designs to choose from. There are ones for your older children, riddle hunts that are great for any age as well as younger children, super clever hunts for the more advance adult and a list hunt for a date night or a fun activity with the kids. You can visit my store here.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope I helped bring more joy into your home one scavenger hunt at a time!
